Caltrans Traffic Advisory for the Week of May 20 through May 24

Traffic Advisory for the Week of 5/20/2024 – 5/24/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of May 20 – May 24.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• Summit Crack Seal Operation– Caltrans maintenance crews from Tehachapi will perform a crack seal operation on State Route 58 between Sand Canyon Road and Summit. There will be intermittent eastbound lane closures Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Inyo County

• Mule Days Parade – The city of Bishop is holding its annual Mule Days parade on Saturday, May 25 on Main Street (U.S. 395) at 10:00 am. Detours at Mandich Street and See Vee Lane will be in place from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Drivers are reminded to slow down on local roads and follow the detour signs to get around the closure.

Mono County

• Mammoth Lakes Electrical Work – On State Route 203, one westbound lane will be closed between Viewpoint Road and Minaret Road to allow for utility work. The closure will be in place from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
• Bridgeport Banner– On U.S. 395, one lane will be closed between Hayes Street and Kirkwood Street as officials hang a banner across the highway. Work is scheduled Tuesday from 6:00 am to 9:00 am. Traffic will be shifted into the center turn lane as needed.
• Virginia Lakes Guardrail Repair– On U.S. 395 between State Route 167 and Virginia Lakes Road, Caltrans maintenance crews will repair guardrail on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

• Rosamond Boulevard Striping – On Rosamond Boulevard at the State Route 14 overcrossing, Kern County continues to stripe the roadway. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday. Drivers may encounter lane closures on the overcrossing and are advised to reduce their speed and pay attention to construction signs.
• Ridgecrest Sewer Replacement– On State Route 178 E between French Avenue and Gemstone Street, crews continue to restore the pavement Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent lane closures. Detours will be available. Drivers could experience brief delays.

Inyo County

• Olancha-Cartago Traffic Switches– There are two traffic switches on U.S. 395 for the Olancho-Cartago project. At the south end of the project area, there is a traffic switch between Sage Flats Road and N Haiwee Road. At the northern end of the project area, there is a traffic switch north of Cartago. The speed limit is reduced to 45 MPH through the new alignments for driver safety. Drivers may experience short delays.
• Olancha Shoulder Closures– On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Mono County

• Sonora Junction Shoulders Project – On U.S. 395 between Burcham Flat Road and Sonora Junction, there will be one-way traffic control as work continues on the Sonora Junction Shoulders Project. Work is scheduled from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday. Drivers may encounter 20-minute delays. The $16.8 million Sonora Junction Shoulders Project was funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change.
