LADWP and Inyo County Office of Education Recognize Inyo County Students with Career Technical Education Scholarships

For the fifth consecutive year, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) partnered with the Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE) on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship for graduating high school students in Inyo County. The CTE scholarship aims to bridge the gap between education and career opportunities in technical fields such as welding, information technology, technical engineering, auto mechanics, and woodworking.

The 2024 winners are:

Bishop Union High School
Jason Mullner
Ryan Sandoval

Lone Pine High School
Noah Lee
Eduardo Navarro Martinez

Big Pine High School
Jayden Barlow

Investing in local students’ education and training helps shape and encourage future generations’ interest to pursue careers in skilled labor trades through training and apprenticeships, benefiting Owens Valley youth. To continue identifying and building ways to support engaging educational programs in Owens Valley, LADWP and ICOE increased the total scholarship program amount from $20,000 to $25,000, awarding five recipients each a $5,000 scholarship to help with the rising costs of educational materials, tools, and tuition.

“We are delighted to continue supporting this initiative, which helps high school graduates access the specialized skills essential for their chosen trade careers and exposes students to the career possibilities offered by skilled labor trades,” said Adam Perez, Los Angeles Aqueduct Manager. “Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients on their achievements.”

“The ICOE is committed to advancing CTE in our schools by offering scholarships to students aspiring for careers in skilled trades. We are also excited about collaborating with LADWP to enhance workforce development resources in the Owens Valley. Upon conclusion of their education, we welcome recipients to return to Inyo County to pursue career opportunities offered here by LADWP and other employers,” stated Randy Cook, Associate Superintendent for the Inyo County Office of Education.

LADWP offers over 25 Career and Technical Education related entry-level positions.
