Traffic Advisory for the Week of 4/22/2024 – 4/26/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of April 22 – April 26.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Project Work

Eastern Kern County

  • Rosamond Boulevard Ramp Closures – On Rosamond Boulevard at the State Route 14 overcrossing, there will be multiple ramp closures next week as Kern County rehabilitates the roadway. Starting Monday night at 7:00 pm, the following ramps will be closed:
  • The southbound State Route 14 off-ramp
  • The westbound on-ramp to southbound State Route 14

These ramp closures will be in place 24 hours a day until the first phase of the rehabilitation project is complete. Detours will be available using Dawn Road, Frontage Road, and the old Sierra Highway. The eastbound on-ramp to southbound State Route 14 will remain open through the first phase of the project. The northbound ramps will remain open throughout the project.

  • Mojave Traffic Break – On State Route 58 between Exit 165 and State Route 14, there will be traffic breaks to allow crews to cross wires over the highway on Tuesday from 6:30 am to noon. Drivers may encounter brief delays.

Inyo County

  • Bishop Sidewalk Closure – On the northbound side of U.S. 395 between Clark Street and East Line Street in Bishop, there will be sidewalk closures to allow for building construction Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Pedestrian detours will be available.

Mono County

  • Conway Summit Guardrail Repair – On U.S. 395 between State Route 167 and Virginia Lakes Road, crews will repair guardrail Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
  • Green Creek Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 between State Route 270 (Bodie Road) and Green Creek Road, utility crews will replace a pole on Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
  • Sonora Junction Guardrail Repair – On U.S. 395 from State Route 108 to one mile north, crews will repair guardrail on Tuesday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

Ongoing Project Work

Eastern Kern County

  • Ridgecrest Sewer Replacement – On State Route 178 E between French Avenue and Gemstone Street, crews are restoring the pavement Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be various intermittent lane closures and detours will be available. Drivers could experience brief delays.
  • Mojave Striping Operation – Crews will stripe the roadway in the following locations around Mojave:
  • State Route 58 from Exit 165 to Exit 172
  • State Route 14 from the northern railroad crossing to the northern junction with Business Route 58.

There will rolling lane closures to accommodate the operation. Work is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Inyo County

  • State Route 190 Repairs – State Route 190 between U.S. 395 in Olancha and the junction of State Route 136 east of Owens Lake remains closed for repairs. The highway is open through Death Valley National Park and can be accessed from U.S. 395 using State Route 136 in Lone Pine. Drivers are discouraged from bypassing road-closure signs.
  • Death Valley Middle Mile Broadband Project – On State Route 190 from the eastern boundary of Death Valley National Park to the Stovepipe Wells Ranger Station, crews are setting fiber optic conduit. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. There will be intermittent one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
  • Horizontal Curve Warning Signs Project – On the northbound shoulder of State Route 14 from Rosamond Boulevard to Abbott Drive in Red Rock Canyon State Park, crews will install new signs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Cartago Traffic Switch – On U.S. 395 north of Cartago, northbound and southbound traffic has switched to temporary lanes. Traffic speeds are reduced to 45 MPH through the current alignment for driver safety. Drivers may experience short delays.
  • Whitney Portal Road Detour Sign – On U.S. 395 near the intersection with Lubken Canyon Road, there are portable message signs informing travelers of a detour for Whitney Portal Road. Check https://ready.inyocounty.us/ for updates on access to Whitney Portal.
  • Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Mono County

  • Topaz Curb and Gutter Work– On U.S. 395 north of the Nevada State Line, crews are removing and replacing curbs and gutters. One-way traffic control will start one mile south of the state line with a flagger Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

 

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
